More about the book..Most Up-to-date Content - Most of the content and all the practice questions in the CR Grail have been created after the launch of the Official Guide 13th edition. In fact, our team used the OG13 as a reference point when deciding which aspects of CR to focus on in the book. For example, other GMAT critical reasoning books cover pages discussing Main point questions but these rarely appear on the GMAT now. In fact the OG 13th ed does not contain any such questions. Similarly question types such as Logically complete the passage , which are increasingly being tested on the GMAT, find no mention in other critical reasoning books, whereas in the CR Grail we have dedicated an entire chapter to discussing this question type. So the CR Grail is the closest representation you can get of the kind of questions and topics tested on GMAT CR at the moment. Meaning oriented approach - A major grouse that students have against most of the Critical Reasoning books is that these books use complicated diagrams/symbols/jargon to explain CR arguments. In one such book, an entire chapter has been devoted to just explaining what these symbols stand for. While it is true that most CR arguments follow a basic structure, the stress always has to be on grasping the meaning of the argument. If you look at arguments very mechanically you will never be able to understand the hidden nuances that are present in difficult arguments.

Concepts like causality and passive assumptions became crystal clear to me

While CR was always my strong section, I picked up this book just to see if it could teach me something that I did not already know and to my surprise it did. And more than just one thing. Concepts like causality and passive assumptions became crystal clear to me, especially the manner in which they are tested on the GMAT, after going through this book. What I like the most about this book, and in fact about all the books by Aristotle, is the very hands-on manner in which they are written. They are crisp and to the point with no beating around the bush. Highly recommended even if you think you are good at CR as you will learn something new.

About the Author
Robert Debs Heinl, deceased, and Nancy Gordon Heinl, both writers and historians, lived in Haiti from 1959 to 1963. Robert Heinl was Chief of the U.S. Naval Mission to Haiti until he was declared persona non grata by François Duvalier. He retired from the Marine Corps in 1964 and wrote a nationally syndicated newspaper column until his death in 1979. Nancy Gordon Heinl was an independent writer and journalist who wrote extensively on black history and voodoo. Born in London, she came to the United States in 1933. She died in 1997. Michael Heinl received his B.A. from Johns Hopkins and an M.B.A. from the University of California, Los Angeles. He is an international business consultant in Washington, D.C.

Finally, practical advice.

This is not one of those garbage "no money down" real estate books, this book gives you valid and useful tips to help you build wealth in real estate, not pie in the sky nonsense. After reading this book I went out and did a deal (flip)and it went reasonably well. I'll get better with experience but this book gives you the basics to get started. Avoid all the no money, no credit books and read this one.

Anyone with common sense need not read this: Save your $21.95

I was very disappointed at the shallow nature of this volume. Several chapters in I realized that this was just another way for Trump to generate a few more royalty dollars. This whole volume can be summarized in a few general maxims: Chapters 1-3 Think like an entrepreneur... meaning take risks. Chapters 4-5 Do your OWN homework ... meaning don't rely on generally accepted rules. Chapters 6-10 Come up with the NEXT great idea ..... meaning think outside the box don't just follow the herd. The only reason I did not give this book a 1 star * is that the last four chapters DO contain some valuable information and charts, formulas and methods that DO go beyond just common sense or obvious advice like where's the market headed? (Chapter 6). In particular it was not until the final chapter (14) How to Value Properties did I actualy take my pen and paper out and start to take some notes. A far better read is Confesssions of a Real Estate Entrepreneur. Save your Time. Use your Common Sense and Spend your $22 bucks to buy another book.

Eldred does it again, showing that he not only knows how to build assets and build cash flow, he also knows how to utilize the Trump name (and Mr. Trump writing a very good foreword). Let's face it, real estate is the best industry out there for growing your money. Why? According to the book, because population is increasing and they don't make land anymore... So increase demand and limited supply.

Vivid imagination and fascinating prose

I still remember, opening my father's dusty trunks filled with books in our attic and being introduced to the strange world of Morgana Royal. It was Corelli's indomitable Morgana who inspired me to choose a career in Engineering, and the notion that for a woman nothing is impossible if there is a thirst for knowledge.
Through the years Morgana, with her great intellect and sarcastic wit has continued to be my inspiration. Corelli's prose is rich and vivid., and she makes Morgana believable and endearing. Bitterly cynical, the book rings with criticism of human society and men in particular, but it is Morgana who captures the readers imagination. The story contains some fantastical arguments about Miss Corelli's mystical beliefs, but still makes good reading.

Not just failing a generation of Millennials who can't get professional jobs after 4 years and tens or hundreds of thousands of college debt, but all workers. Pearson presents the historical contexts of work throughout history, showing how these paradigms each crumbled as a result of power shifts from Monarchies to Banks to Corporations. Today, the power shift has moved from the Corporation to the Individual, and as such, a "job" in the traditional sense is doomed.

After laying the groundwork for this theory, Pearson then presents actionable steps to hedge these risks and attain freedom. Like The Four Hour Work Week, there are also specific strategies and tactics. With the rate at which digital innovation moves, it's difficult to keep these tactics timeless. But the concepts of the "Stair Step Method" and Apprenticeships will hold any fledgling entrepreneur in good stead for years to come. I for one will use it and the accompanying bonus material as a knowledgebase in my own business and personal processes.

There is a somewhat derogatory term, the Wantrepreneur: a person who gorges on entrepreneurial philosophy and strategies but is yet to pull the trigger and go out on a limb themselves. Wantrepreneurship is a necessary stage in the journey - you must first decide that being an Entrepreneur is something worth caring about. The End of Jobs provides the mission as well as the toolkit to take those first steps.

The world is changing so fast we can't trust society to catch up - we need people at the very edge, who can understand the principles behind human nature and translate what's going on using facts and making sense of all those changes.

So, here comes Taylor Pearson. He brings a perfect mix of systems, principles and philosophy to help you achieve wealth, freedom and meaning in today's world.

I don't throw around the word "brilliant" very often, but Taylor is incredible. Darn, if you don't want to buy this book, go and peruse the archive of his blog. I've been following it for close to 2 years and it's been consistently amazing.

And don't get me wrong: it's practical. After putting this book down, you'll have a sense in which direction to go in order to create the life you want.

This's gonna be, by far, the best book you'll buy this year - maybe this decade.

The Personal Entrepreneur

We’ve all heard Marc Andreessen quip how ‘Software is eating the world’. Automation is posing a serious threat to rote work that can be performed better by computers. According to the Economist almost half of all current jobs will be automated. So what does this mean for the next generation of workers?

In Pearson’s view the emphasis should be on "current" jobs. Work in the future will not look anything like it does today, but one aspect will be inevitable: personal entrepreneurship.

This is because the internet has democratised global distribution and has exposed the long tail of consumer demand. In the post-internet world, anyone with a laptop and internet connection can turn his/her personal area of expertise into a useful product/service and cost-effectively ship it to anyone around the world.

In today’s world of educational inflation the limiting constraint for fulfilling work and safe salary is no longer credentialism but entrepreneurship.
As a university researcher in aerospace engineering, I myself am right at the top of this educational ladder. For a long time I kept asking myself, What do I have to fear? Aerospace engineering jobs require a unique combination of analytical skills and creativity, are computers and the masses of new engineering graduates from India and China really going to compete away my livelihood?

Perhaps. I am still convinced that practical professions like engineering will always be in demand.

However, what this book has done is to force me to question my fondly held assumptions and acknowledge that there is room for entrepreneurship for everyone.

I love and enjoy my university work and want to stay in research for the foreseeable future. But, reading The End of Jobs has made me realise that I can add an extra layer of security, and perhaps optionality to my life, by taking advantage of the global marketplace that has been exposed by the internet to sell products/services that leverage my unique skillset.

At the least this creates an additional source of income for the near term. At best, I have the optionality to work freely for myself if I choose to do so in the future.

Not much that's appealing

If you're not up on the latest crop of musicals, very little in these newer volumes will be familiar, and I can't say I'm finding anything terrifically appealing as I read through them either. Much of it sits very low--E3-C4. A few melodies show promise of being halfway interesting, but then they throw in an F-bomb. Does that make it edgy? Meh. Plenty of others are just 10 pages of rambling through the same 5th on the scale. All in all, not much to use here.

About the Author
Susan Nees graduated with honors from the University of the Arts in Philadelphia. She has also received the American Institute of Graphic Arts Award (AIGA). Good combination of history and realistic fiction!

While I was not a fan of previous Missy books, I like this one. I think this plot is something that kids can relate to well. Most children want to be the star of the show and not have a non-speaking role as a peanut. I also like that the author has woven in some factual information about George Washington Carver (a person on our state's testing!) into this fictional story. Students will learn about him in spite of themselves!

These books are great transitional books for children who think they are to big for picture books (even though no one is ever to big for picture books!) but yet they are not quite ready to handle a hefty no picture chapter book. They don't look babyish either and the illustrations are in full color. This particular book uses a lot of speech bubbles so graphic novel/comic book loving kids will enjoy that as well.

Perfect for my 1st Grader

My first grade daughter is an accelerated reader and this series of books is perfect for her. She tends to read the Super Duper Royal Deluxe books in about an hour. They really captivate her attention, have cute illustrations and are enjoyable for me for the times I read along with her. If your child is on the cusp of reading chapter books or already is reading chapter books but not the too sophisticated ones, give this series a try. I would probably just recommend this book for girls, but boys could potentially like it, too.

Fabulous illustrations combine with a funny story that is sure to pleasure both children and adults. There is something new to find in this book with each reading. Highly recommended for new readers and parents who are tired of the same-old-same-old.

Broader introduction than usual

I would agree with everything the first reviewer has written. This book is very readable, and it introduces a large number of important general concepts in number theory. What separates this book from other "introduction" books is (1) it is pitched at a much higher level than most introductory number theory books, which often assume that proofs and induction are unfamiliar, and so there are many superfluous chapters at the beginning which are just a rehash of basic set theory, how to write proofs, and modular arithmetic. This book starts from the beginning with Fermat and assumes some mathematical maturity -- ability to read proofs, knowledge of calculus, linear algebra, basic definitions of groups, rings, and fields, about advanced undergraduate, roughly. But the difference in sophistication is more obvious towards the middle and end of the book, where more general concepts from algebra, geometry, and analysis start to appear. This allows the author to talk about a variety of topics that are rarely mentioned in "introductory" books. Put another way -- if you want to see what some of these topics are about, you either have THIS book, or else some rather technical graduate textbooks to start with. Where else is complex multiplication, transcendental number theory, quadratic forms, and p-adic numbers all discussed at an undergraduate level? The other aspect which is different is (2) everything is historically motivated, and this is more than a phrase -- passages of original historical text, problems originally studied, historical commentary, and other folklore are nicely put together with mathematics. The result is that the reader gets a very broad picture of number theory, the "big picture", seeing how number theory isn't some static piece of knowledge sitting somewhere in space, but a body of concepts, ideas, and techniques which naturally developed over the past 400 years. For an advanced undergraduate or graduate student who wants a simple answer to the question, "What is number theory?", I would just refer them to this book.

A skillful blend of history and solid number theory

A clearly written book that covers number theory at a graduate or advanced undergraduate level. Covers much of the material in Gauss's Disquisitiones, but without all the detail. The book covers elementary number theory, binary quadratic forms, cyclotomy, Gaussian integers, quadratic fields, ideals, algebraic curves, rational points on elliptic curves, geometry of numbers, and introduces p-adic numbers. Only a slight bit of analytic number theory is covered. A good book in my opinion to start learning algebraic number theory. Wonderfully fills the otherwise troublesome gap between undergraduate number theory and overly abstract graduate level algebraic number theory.
Full of historical information hard to find elsewhere, very well researched. To cover all the material in this book would likely take two semesters, though most of the important material could be covered in one semester. Requires a background in abstract algebra (undergraduate level), and a little advanced calculus. Some complex analysis for sections 19.7 and 19.8 would be helpful, but not at all a requirement. The author recommends Harold Davenport's 'The Higher Arithmetic' as a companion volume for the first 12 chapters, which according to Goldman is a gem of a book.

A Modern Classic

This is a superb book. The level is a broad introduction to Number Theory quite unlike any other. Every other N.T. book I know is either of the elementary type that covers all the usual stuff on primes, continued fractions, congruences, diophantine equations, quadratic reciprocity, etc. and then stops without introducing any of the machinery of the modern (ie. the last century and more), algebraic and geometric theory; OR, it is an advanced textbook that assumes a sophisticated and comprehensive knowledge of analysis and Galois theory etc. This remarkable book has substantial sections on the geometry of numbers, elliptic curves, p-adic analysis and much else as well as the 'elementary' stuff and provides a large amount of fascinating historical motivation. The whole book is very clear, well presented and thoroughly pleasurable to read. How all this is achieved in about 550 pages is that the earlier elementary parts are economically presented without too much of the recreational number novelties that tend to pad out some other books, and also a less rigorous approch is taken to (the more difficult) theorems that uses looser, schematic proofs or emphasises explanation of the meaning and relevance rather than exhaustive rigor. This book breaches the vital gap between basic and advanced NT that is conspicuously unfilled elsewhere. More books of this type are desperately needed, although one could hardly expect many to be as good as this.
